meyne hent (2023)
Queer Cinema, Feminist Autotheory, Erotica
Synopsis
An exploration of the intersections of queerness, Jewishness, and the experience of the femme body.
meyne hent, translated from the Yiddish as “my hands”, is a loose adaption of the Celia Dropkin poem by the same name. Using visual language, the filmmaker examines her intersecting identities of queerness, Jewishness, and transness by exploring her relationship with the femme body. The film draws parallels between the body as landscape and landscape as body through intimately close portraiture. Connections emerge between religion and mythology, interior and exterior, architecture and flesh, masculine and feminine. Recontextualising symbolism and ritual via the queer lens.
